Thoughts
A beautiful memorial service and tribute to Derek who will be sorely missed by friends and family. Derek’s kindness, sense of humour and generosity was so evident to many today who reminisced on a life well lived. A life filled with richness and success in work, love and personal relationships. May your lifetime of cherished memories help sustain, comfort and carry you through your grief and difficult days. I wish I could have been with you and Ben today to say my farewell and be of some support in some small way. Hopefully we can get together soon across the miles to share some fond memories. Watching the Webcast of Derek's Memorial Service and listening to the stories and music that told just part of the life that was Derek, makes me realise even more what an amazing man Derek was and wonder why a man of his calibre and integrity has been taken from us so early. I am so sad we were not able to travel to England through the last 2 years of Covid, and wish with all my heart that we could have been at the memorial service to say our farewells and to be of some support to Cathy. The Rodman family form a big part of our history in Canada and the memories we have are strong and lasting. My heart and soul are still in England and always will be, though my love and life are here in Canada, and I am so thankful that Derek and Cathy and Ben have brought me some Englishness in our continuing friendship. It is still so hard to believe that Derek is gone, especially as we are so far away, and I like to think of Derek puttering about in his garage with all his boxes of bits. I look forward to finally being able to travel to see you in the next few months Cathy and Ben, to share our stories, to laugh and cry together and to finally go for some long brisk walks and say goodbye in our own way.
